Picea, or Spruce trees, are evergreen conifers found in the cool climates of the Northern Hemisphere. The majority of which are large noble trees with attractive foliage ranging from green to steely-blue. Large and attractive cones are pendulous at maturity contrasting with the Firs that hold their cones upright. Picea plants are windfirm and make excellent specimens and windbreaks for larger yards, gardens and parks. One of the most popular is Picea omorika 'Bruns', or Bruns Serbian Spruce. It features a very narrow tall habit which is ideal for todays smaller yards.
Spruce trees are slow growing and perform better in areas with rich, deep, acidic, well drained soils and full sun. They do tolerate a wide range of soils but tend not to perform well in mild areas or pollued environments.
