Bamboo is beautiful evergreen plant known for its attractive canes, delicate foliage and impressive growth habit. Bamboos are grouped into two main types, running and clumping.
Running bamboos have a bad reputation because they can grow extremely vigorously and if not controlled can be invasive. Generally speaking running bamboos are larger and taller than clumping bamboos. Timber bamboos are runners. Plant running bamboos in containers, in larger areas where you don't mind if they spread or use products like Bamboo Barrier (available at Art's).
Clumping bamboos are well behaved. They are not invasive and do not require containment. While they look similar in appearance, clumping bamboos tend to be smaller, more delicate and often will not reach the same height as running varieties.
