Japanese Maples are a diverse group of small to mid-sized deciduous trees renowned for their upright or weeping forms, architectural branching, attractive leaves and stunning fall foliage colours. Leaves are typically green, red or yellow before they change colour in the fall. Green and yellow leaved forms tens to have the more vibrant fall colours.
Japanese Maples are under-story plants best used in woodland or partly shaded environments. They are also a staple of most asian inpsired gardens. Most varieties will tolerate full sun when planted in slightly moist soils.
Most Japanese Maples fall into one of three botanical species:
- Acer palmatum
- Acer japonicum
- Acer shirasawanum
