Photinia are a small group of evergreen or semi-evergreen shrubs often used as a hedge or edge. The most common variety, Photinia x fraserii, or Fraser's Photinia is sought after for its bright red new foliage that turns green over time.
Photinia can be a challenging plant to grow, but the results are worth it. We have found that it either loves or hates where you plant it. One valuable piece advice, feed it lots. This plant benefits from regular applications of fertilizer.
Photinia grows best in full sun in well drained soil, fertile soil. Prune to promote dense growth, particularly when used as a hedging plant.
