Ceanothus or California Lilac is a popular evergreen to semi-evergreen shrub with usually dark green foliage and masses of bright blue flowers in late spring and summer. An excellent plant for seaside and coastal locations as well as most other temperate climates. They are often found on hot, dry and stony slopes where they tolerate drought, heat and cold provided the soil drains well. With that said, they appreciate a little more shelter in colder, windier locations.
California Lilacs perform best in full sun in areas with consistent rainfall and will tolerate most soils. They dislike heavy pruning and soil disturbance so avoid moving them once planted
