Forever Blue Hydrangea
Hydrangea can be either deciduous or evergreen. The widely cultivated temperate species are all deciduous. There are numerous named varieties divided into two groups; Hortensias, with rounded flower heads, and the Lacecaps, with flat heads of inner fertile florets surrounded by sterile florets. On alkaline soils, almost all the blue varieties turn pink or red-purple, whilst on acid or neutral soils, the pink varieties turn purple or blue. 'Forever Blue' bears blue flower heads rather like lacecap varieties, but then fill out so they become more like mopheads.
