The BC Bonsai Society have partnered up with us at Art's Nursery, to host a beginner workshop, where participants will select a tree for purchase and be guided through the steps to transform it into a bonsai. The wstorkshop will cover tree selection, design, branch pruning and wiring at a beginner level. Each step in the process will be instructed and demonstrated, then participants will do the work on their own selected tree.
This event is run by Darren Melhus and four other experts from the Bc Bonsai society. Darrenis a full-time bonsai creator and teacher with over 20 years experience. He is the current President of the BC Bonsai Society and is chairperson for the club meetings where he provides instruction on bonsai design and horticulture for beginner to advanced practitioners. Darren and his team enjoy introducing people to bonsai and passing on what they have learned so that others can enjoy and create great bonsai trees too.
- bonsai is a relaxing and creative pastime.
- It uses several time-developed methods to produce miniature trees or shubs in small containers.
- Often varieties with smaller, delicate leaves or needles are chosen to further amplify this ‘scaled-down’ appearance.
- Artists usually begin with a starter specimen plant that is then shaped in an aesthetic way using bonsai wire, pruning and various other techniques that over time achieve the desired result.
- Bonsai is a labour of love and time and when done properly can produce incredible, unparalleled pieces of art!
