How To Grow Weeping Fig
Ficas benjamina
Popular indoor houseplant originally from Southeast Asia. Glossy pointed leaves are held on drooping branches on woody stems. A great slow-growing specimen for any brightly lit room. Trunks are often braided for extra interest. Great for improving air quality.
LIGHT
Bright light is recommended. Avoid sudden light changes as leaf drop may occur.
WATER
Water thoroughly, but allow it to dry out slightly between watering. It will not tolerate soggy soil. Keep slightly drier in the winter. Moderate to high humidity is recommended.
SOIL
Any well draining soil mix should give good results.
CARE
They prefer to be slightly pot bound, repotting is only recommended every 3-4 years. Place in bright, indirect light and leave it there. It’s known to drop its leaves when moved around. In Fall, some leaf drop is normal. Prevent excessive leaf drop by increasing humidity. Keep it away from cool drafts or blasts of hot air. Feed once a month in Spring through Fall with a 1/2 strength fertilizer.
