How To Grow Wax Plant
Hoya
Called the Wax Plant because of its thick, waxy leaves, the Hoya has been a popular houseplant since your grand-mothers era. It can live forever, grows to be enormous and created porcelain-like fragrant flowers. Hundreds of species are available.
LIGHT
Hoyas are happiest in bright, indirect light. Insufficient light will cause them to become weaker, leggy and produce fewer leaves.
WATER
Soak the soil thoroughly until the water drains out the bottom holes. Let your Hoyas dry out between watering. Its thick waxy leaves hold lots of water, so you can usually water it less than you think. Keep humidity on the high side 50-60%. Cut back on watering during the winter months.
SOIL
Hoya soil should have good drainage, but enough water to keep it moist. Our Pro-Mix Tropical Blend soil is ideal.
CARE
Warm spaces are important 65-85F. Keep away from cold drafts. Planting in small pots keeps them rootbound, which can be beneficial to their growth and health. Mealybugs seem to love Hoyas. Wipe them off with Isopropyl Alcohol on a cotton swab. Hoyas are non-toxic to dogs and cats making them a great houseplant. Fertilize every 2 weeks with ½ strength liquid feed.
