How To Grow String of Pearls
Senecio rowleyanus
This native of South Africa features round, succulent leaves on long, slender stems. An ideal plant for hanging baskets or as a trailer in a container. It’s a vigorous grower and can quickly creep across and cascade downwards from its location.
LIGHT
Bright light with some direct sun is recommended. Avoid too much direct sunlight.
WATER
Keep it lightly moist throughout the growing season. Cut back on watering during the winter months, but don’t allow it dry out completely. Pearls than look flat are a sign that the soil is too dry. It will not tolerate soggy soil. Avg to dry humidity.
SOIL
A cactus potting mix with good drainage is recommended. If you prefer to mix your own, use 3 parts good quality potting soil like our Pro-Mix products and 1 part sharp sand.
CARE
Fairly easy to grow in bright light in lightly moist soil. It can take the heat, but avoid too much direct sunlight. Avoid extremely dry or severely wet soils. Feed once a month spring through fall with a 1/2 strength liquid fertilizer. Give the plant a rest in winter. A cool, dry winter can promote blooming in spring.
