How To Grow Norfolk Pine
Araucaria heterophylla
This native of, where else, Norfolk Island, is a slow growing evergreen conifer that makes a wonderful houseplant. Long horizontal branches are densely covered with short, soft needles. Not a true Pine, it just looks like one.
LIGHT
Norfolk Island Pines prefer bright light with some full sun.
WATER
Keep the soil evenly moist in the spring and summer, lightly moist in winter. Dry air will cause the needles to become dry and fall off. Keep your plant away from heat/AC vents. Loves to be misted with room temperature water.
SOIL
A soil based potting mix like our Pro-Mix products are ideal.
CARE
Dry air, dry soil and low light can cause the needles to drop -- and they won’t grow back. Yellow needles are usually caused by soil that’s either too dry or too wet. Feed every 2 weeks from Spring through Fall with a 1/2 strength liquid fertilizer. Repot when necessary, usually every 2-3 years. Never cut or trim the sides of this plant. Remove any branches or stems that perish. Watch for mealybugs.
