How To Grow Monstera
Monstera deliciosa
Also known as the ‘Swiss Cheese Plant’, this native of Southern Mexico and Guatemala is a large, lush and bold indoor tropical. A great specimen or accent is you have the space. It’s a climber in the wild that uses aerial roots as anchors and for gathering nutrition.
LIGHT
Bright light, no direct sun. If leaves on mature plants grow without holes or slits, give the plant more light. Scorched leaves may occur if placed in strong, direct sunlight.
WATER
Water thoroughly and allow the top inch of soil to dry out between watering. Keep soil barely moist in winter. Yellowing lower leaves are usually a sign of overwatering. Provide good drainage. Average to high humidity is preferred.
SOIL
A good quality, all purpose potting mix is recommended. A 1/2 peat moss and 1/2 sand or perlite mix is a great way to get good drainage.
CARE
Leaves are poisonous and can cause severe burning in the mouth if eaten. They can also cause skin irritation. Repot if the plant has outgrown its container. Feed every 2 weeks from Spring through Fall with a 1/2 strength fertilizer. Monthly winter feedings recommended. Keep leaves dust-free and shiny by gently wiping them with a damp cloth.
