How To Grow Chinese Evergreen
Aglaonema
Also known as ‘Chinese Evergreen’ this very decorative plant is one of the most popular houseplants and comes in several commonly available varieties. Slow growing, attractive foliage plants with large, narrow leaves.
LIGHT
Generally speaking, this plant likes indirect light, not direct sun. Too much sun can scorch the leaves. Leaf colour effects the light requirement. Dark green varieties can grow in near shade, while variegated varieties require brighter light.
WATER
Aglaonema prefers warm and moist locations. Water thoroughly and regularly in summer and mist to increase humidity. In winter, reducing watering, but do not let the plant dry out entirely. Avoid too much water as it can cause root rot.
SOIL
A well drained, lightly acidic potting soil like our Pro-Mix regular or Tropical Plant Blend is ideal.
CARE
These plants dislike cold drafts or temperatures below 65F / 18C. Keep it away from cold, vents or drafty windows. Feed it every 4-6 weeks with a liquid fertilizer during the growing season. Slow growing, repotting is not necessary for several years. Yellow or brown foliage or stalks may indicate over watering. Curling foliage may be caused by too much sun.
