Due to our rainy climate, most soils in the Pacific Northwest are naturally acidic. The landscape plants that particularly like acidic soils include:
- Rhododendrons
- Azaleas
- Arbutus
- Camellias
- Pieris
- Vaccinium (Blueberries)
- Heaths & Heathers
- Viburnum
You can test your soils acidity by using a handy low cost soil pH tester. If you need to make your soil more acidic, there are three easy ways to do this:
- mix peat moss into your soil
- Use garden sulphur
- Use aluminum sulphate
