What plants can I plant near my pond?

The edges of a natural pond or water feature are usually moist, boggy and marshy. This is a great place for plants commonly called Marginals. In other words, plants that don't mind having wet feet, but would prefer not to be fully submerged. Examples include:

  • Some Iris Varieties
  • Some Primulas
  • Cattails
  • Rush (Juncus)
  • Gunnera
  • Taro / Elephant Ears

Further away from the water's edge you could plant nearly any plant. Japanese Maples look particularly good!
