Family Stepping Stone Project
Family Stepping Stone Project
This project is great for a sunny afternoon! I sent the kids out to collect pebbles, shells, fern leaves for imprints, and other bits and pieces. When they return with their treasure, I usually have their chosen moulds filled and ready to go.
Ingredients:
· Tin pie plates or plastic drip trays to form molds (you can also dig a shape into ground where you want the stepping stone and pour free-form)
· Pam cooking spray or other anti-stick spray
· Bag of quick-set redi-mix concrete
· Water
· Large plastic bucket, or wheelbarrow for mixing cement
· Shells, pebbles, leaves, broken pottery etc. for decorating
· Plastic gloves for working with concrete…and to keep little hands safe when making hand imprints.
Mix concrete according to directions, avoid inhaling dust when pouring the concrete dust into the container. Pour concrete into your chosen forms and decorate!! Let your stepping stones cure for a couple of days. You can mist with water and cover them with a cloth if you live in areas with extreme freeze-thaw cycles. Keeping the concrete moist and allowing it to cure slowly makes it stronger.
Enjoy!
