Intense purple black foliage is finely cut, giving it an effect similar to that of Japanese maple. Creamy pink flowers in spring. Very cold hardy and easy to grow.
This tall native shrub grows in dry or in moist soils, in sun or in shade. Showy clusters of white spring flowers are followed by highly ornamental red berries, attractive to birds, & edible, but not tasty.
A dwarf variety, growing to 4' tall. Leaves are lacy, to 9 in. long, consisting of up to 5 toothed leaflets. In springtime produces small, cream flowers in cone-shaped panicles. Berries follow.
