Plants are sold in many different sizes and containers. The most common are shown below. The names used are trade names, and are not necessarily true to volume or size. For example, a typical 4 inch pot is actually 3.5 inches measures diagonally. Likewise #1 Pots are often called '1 Gallon Pots' even though they do not hold 1 gallon of volume.
