Description

Summit Products Mosquito Dunks 2Pk are a trusted biological pest control solution designed to interrupt the life cycle of mosquitoes before they develop into biting adults. These donut-shaped briquets contain Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (BTI), a naturally occurring bacterium that selectively targets larval stages of mosquitoes when placed in standing water such as rain barrels, birdbaths, ponds, and planter saucers. Once in contact with water, the dunks slowly release BTI over about 30 days, providing sustained control of mosquito larvae without harming people, pets, fish, birds, beneficial insects, or other wildlife — making them safe for use around gardens and water features.

In addition to mosquito control, BTI’s mode of action also affects other dipteran larvae, including those of fungus gnats that develop in moist potting soil. While the product is formulated for aquatic use, many gardeners repurpose dunks or BTI-based products (including “Mosquito Bits”) to suppress fungus gnat larvae in houseplant and container plant soils by creating a BTI-infused watering solution or incorporating small crushed amounts into the topsoil. This dual-purpose biological activity helps reduce both mosquito and fungus gnat populations in a safe, organic-friendly way.
