Learn with Dave about lawn care this Spring
Hi, this is Dave from Art’s Nursery. Join us for our second segment on lawn care and preparation. One of the things I'm going to talk about today is care for those homeowners that have small lawns. And what we're going to talk about is just applying a little bit of sand a little bit of top dressing to your lawn.
One of the things I do recommend if you have a very wet lawn is to use a pitchfork and very carefully go straight into the ground. Apply a little pressure give it a slight wiggle pull it back out and move on to the next spot and then just do that systematically as you work backwards across your lawn. This allows air and applies a little bit more dryness to your lawns.
After you've done that you have a couple of options. We sell both sand and turf blend in bags easy to carry and basically what you're going to do is just very carefully sand those holes in with either the top dressing or the sand.
One of the reasons why we are aerate not too early in the season. It's just that the soil gets quite compacted with all the rains that we have. Golf courses do it twice a year to their greens because they have over a hundred thousand people walking on them. But for us it's more the compaction and to amend the soil so that it actually adds nutrients to your lawn.
Thanks for watching my video. We're at 8940 192nd Street in Surrey. If you have any questions, I'm here at Art’s Nursery Monday to Friday. Love to answer them for you. Bring some pictures in because then I can actually diagnose any problems you’re having with your lawn a bit easier.
