Posted By: in Christmas

If you're like me, Christmas shopping can be challenging experience as you carefully seek out something interesting, unique, yet useful for friends and colleagues - without breaking the bank! In this first part of a two part post, I'll share with you some of my favourite gift ideas for 2013

Home Fragrance Products

Lampe Berger and Thymes products are two fantastic ways of filling your holiday home with fragrance.

Thymes Frasier Fir

Thymes Frasier Fir products are available as either a spray mist, a votive or a candle. When used or lit, their delightful scent makes you feel like your sitting next to the freshest fraser fir christmas tree you can imagine.

Lampe Berger Fragrances

Lampe Berger probably needs no introduction. This line of delightful home fragrance lamps, from basic to timeless, ranging from modern and trendy to limited editions are sure to please. Lampe Berger products create air that is both clean and fragrant. Responding to the need for disinfection in hospitals, Maurice Berger invented a system of diffusion by catalysis. This revolutionary technology purifies the air in closed rooms and when coupled with fragrance adds a delightful perfumed scent to your home.

Simply purchase a lamp, fill it with the fragrance of your choice, insert the wick and light.Within 20 minutes an average sized room will be filled with a delightful scent. Some of the available fragrance families include:

  • Dreams of Exploration
  • Dreams of Flowers
  • Oriental Dreams
  • Sweet Dreams
  • Dreams of Fruits
  • Pure Dreams
  • Dreams of Freshness
  • Functionals

Terrariums and Airplants

Anything Airplant or Terrarium

Airplants, also known as Tillandsias, are hot right now. These plants do not require roots or soil to grow and therefore are perfect for busy people or those who like to use the phrase 'low maintenance gardening' a lot. Simply place the airplant into or onto any surface with bright, but indirect sunlight and mist it occasionally. That's all the care it needs.

For an artistic flair, plant to airplant in a terrarium, a glass hanging globe, a hanging planter or even directly on a wall using the 'Thigmotrope'. Yes, that's really what its called. Screw it into any wall and place the airplant right on it.

Garden Tools are Great Gifts

New Garden Tools

Gardeners and landscapers just have a way of losing, damaging or breaking tools. It's just the way it is... Treat your loved one to a brand new set of pruners, weeders, cultivators or other type of tool. It's the only way to ensure the 'honey-do' list will ever get looked at.

Christmas Ornaments at Arts Nursery

Christmas Ornaments

A great little tradition is to give one really nice Christmas ornament to your friends or loved ones each and every year. A particularly fun approach is to find ornaments that describe or match their personality or hobbies. It's also a nice method to avoid resorting to those boring blobs of coloured plastic being sold in box-stores.

Amaryllis Bulb

Amaryllis Bulbs

Next to the poinsettia, Amaryllis bulbs make a fantastic Christmas gift. These huge South African bulbs are great for indoor planters. Get them in the ground quick and they may even bloom by Christmas. Buy a cool variety, choose a nice indoor planter and soil, add a bow or bauble and it's ready to go. There are so many cool varieties available that choosing one is half the fun!

Bird Feeders at Arts Nursery

Bird Feeders

A large part of a garden is the wildlife it attracts. Add a stylish or functional bird feeder and watch the chickadees and other birds magically flit and flutter in search of food. This is especially rewarding when it is cold out as food sources can run low for our feathered friends.

Hellebore Joshua

Hellebores

They don't call them the Christmas Rose for nothing! These evergreen perennials are one of the few hardy plants that will actually bloom in the winter. As they are shade loving, they also make great houseplants as long as your home isn't too warm or too dry. Hellebores come in what may seem hundreds of named varieties and colours, but the most popular are pure white, yellow, pink, dark red and even dark purple or near black.

Arts Nursery Gift Card

Art's Nursery Gift Cards

When all other ideas just aren't working, Art's Nursery does offer gift cards. Whether your friend or significant other needs landscape quantities or just a little treasure, gift cards give them the freedom to choose the item that speaks to them personally. Available in any denomination up to $250 dollars.

Stay tuned for part two of great gift ideas for 2013!
